New Westminster lacrosse was front and centre as the Western Lacrosse Association announced its first wave of award winners.

First-year New Westminster Salmonbellie Logan Schuss was named the winner of the Ed Bailey Memorial Trophy as the Western Lacrosse Association outstanding rookie of the year. Schuss topped this year's rookie list with 29 goals and 27 assists for 56 points in 12 games.

Laker named top coach

First-year Burnaby Lakers head coach Rory McDade of New Westminster was the winner of the Dorothy Robertson Award for coach of the year in the WLA.

McDade coached the Lakers to a respectable third-place finish with a 10-8 win/loss season and a berth into the playoffs.

Unsung hero a Laker, too

Burnaby Lakers transition runner Justin Salt, a former New Westminster junior A player, was this season's winner of the Fred Wooster Award as the unsung hero in the WLA.

Salt was a constant threat coming out of his own end and was a demon on the loose ball. He also chipped in offensively with nine goals and 12 assists in league and playoffs this season.
