New West Spartans win x-country titles

Alicia Bremer and Jemal Reta won their respective age groups at the B.C. cross-country championships in Abbotsford last week. Bremer took top spot in the nine-year-old girls' 1,500-metre run, finishing in a time of 7: 17.

Bremer took top spot in the nine-year-old girls' 1,500-metre run, finishing in a time of 7: 17.20 for the New West Spartans, more than a second ahead of runner-up Olivia McAuley of Valley Royals.

Reta, who also trains with the Spartans, took the boys' 15-year division title in a sprint to the finish against Langley Mustangs' Nickolas Colyn. Reta's winning time in the 3,000m race was 9: 08.81.

Royal City Track's Grace Fetherstonhaugh finished fourth in the 12-year-old girls' 3,000m.

Spartan 10-year-old Tirus Glowacki was sixth in the boys' 2,000m race.

Shea Janke and Jeremy Belcher placed sixth and eighth, respectively, for Royal City in the boys' 11year division.

Emily Chilton of Royal City was ninth in the girls' 13-year 3,000m.

Douglas College student Travis Fraser placed eighth over a seven-kilometre distance.
