The New Westminster Royals C1 hockey team won the recent Peewee Winter Classic tournament held in Kamloops.

The Royals, the only Lower Mainland representative, won 12-team tournament as coach Bob Turnbull's 11-and 12-yearold boys went undefeated in an intense five games in two days to claim the championship trophy.

New West claimed the gold medal following a 4-1 victory over the Kelowna Predators in the tournament final.

Game MVP Jacob Binns led the way with a hat-trick, including an empty-net goal that clinched the title.

Troy Tucsok scored the eventual game-winning goal with assists from line-mate and team captain Alex Lazecki and defenseman Sean Bocirnea.

The team finished with a record of four wins and a tie, with 23 goals for and only eight against. Tucsok was the tournament scoring leader with 13 points.
