During the month of August, Cornish, a former St. Thomas More Collegiate provincial player of the year, rushed for 372 yards in three games, averaging 6.6 yards per carry.

Cornish rushed for 170 yards in Calgary's 31-20 win over Hamilton to start the month and later added 159 yards on the ground in a 17-10 victory over Saskatchewan. The former University of Kansas star also earned 75 additional yards on eight receptions in three games during the month of August.

WEARING THE C IN MERRITT

New Westminster Secondary School grad Brent Fletcher was named the captain of the Merritt Centennials of the B.C. Hockey League for the upcoming junior A season.

In 118 league and playoff games, Fletcher, a third-year forward, has scored 14 goals and added 20 assists.

SFU HOCKEY LUNCHEON

Simon Fraser University hockey will be holding its third annual scholarship luncheon next month.

The event will take place on Friday, Sept. 14 at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel in Vancouver.

Proceeds from the event contribute to the funding of hockey scholarships.
