Queensborough motocross racer Spencer Knowles finished up in eighth place overall in the 2012 Monster Energy national series.
Knowles, 19, placed ninth after two heats in the MX2 division in the final race on the nine-stop series tour in Walton, Ont. on Aug. 19. His best run was fifth in the opening Moto heat in Walton.
"I'm pretty happy with the way it went. I had a bit of bad luck and a couple of good finishes," said Spencer from his New West home. "Consistency definitely counts. I got to work on that. It's one of the things I have to work on."
Knowles, who races a 250cc Yamaha, garnered 24 points in his final race, giving the New Westminster teen a total of 201 total points, good for eighth place in the overall aggregate driver standings.
American Teddy Maier, the 2009 series champion, rode his Kawasaki to the top the series with 406 points, following a pair of runner-up placings at Walton.
KTM rider Jeremy Medaglia of Ontario placed runner-up in the series with a combined 386 points, including a victory in the opening heat at Walton.
Knowles reached the podium on two occasions in the summer season racing. The first was a runner-up finish at the season-opener at the Wastelands in Nanaimo in June.
The second time was two weeks later at Calgary's Wild Rose Motocross Park, where he raced to third in the heats.
Knowles placed fourth overall at both Calgary and Quebec stops on the national series tour. He also had a sixth-place overall finish in Edmonton.
In all Knowles had five top-10 finishes on the nine-round national motocross series.
