The New Westminster Salmonbellies lacrosse club officially branded its famous fish and W logo with its minor league affiliates.
The senior A club entered into an official agreement with the junior A club and the New Westminster minor associations at Queen’s Park Arena prior to last Thursday’s Western Lacrosse Association game on June 19.
The largely ceremonial signing involved the licensing and use of the Salmonbellies registered trademarks in Canada. The agreement, officially signed by senior club president Dan Richardson, New Westminster junior A club president Walt Weaver and New Westminster Minor Lacrosse Association president Darren Flintoff, formalizes a relationship that has long existed in spirit between the New Westminster lacrosse community.
Richardson said it was fitting the signing was made on the club’s 125th anniversary.
“It is hoped that this initiative will assist in setting the club up for a historic legacy like few others in sport,” said Richardson in a club press release. “As the oldest and last community-run club in Canada, we are proud of this achievement. It is truly reflective of the leadership working together to respect the pride and tradition the brand has in the sport of lacrosse and our community of New Westminster.”
The Salmonbellie name and iconic logo are now officially also licensed to the New Westminster junior and minor lacrosse clubs.
