New West juniors place 13th at B.C. girls

The New Westminster Hyacks defeated St. Thomas More Knights 41-34 in their final game at the B.C. high school junior girls' basketball championships in Langley

Justice Steer helped give the New Westminster Hyacks 13th place at the B.C. junior girls’ basketball championships.

Steer scored 25 points and was named New West’s player of the game in the Hyacks 41-34 win over St. Thomas More at the Langley Events Centre on Saturday.

The victory gave the Hyacks a 2-2 record in provincial play. STM finished behind New West in 14th place.

Earlier, New Westminster scored a 49-37 win over Nechako Valley. Madisen Obrovac was named the Hyacks player of the game.

Riverside defeated South Kamloops 46-32 in the girls’ championship final. McMath finished in third place.

In junior boys’ basketball, played in conjunction with the B.C. girls’ provincials, STM placed out of the top 10 following a 65-58 loss to Dover Bay.

West Vancouver won the junior boys’ title, edging Panorama Ridge 53-50 in the title game.

Tamanawis placed third overall, edging Walnut Grove 58-50 in the consolation final.
