The New Wesminster Hyacks capped off its varsity spring training camp with a 21-21 result against Blaine High School in Washington State on Friday night.

Angelo Tanjuaquio scored a pair of touchdowns, from 60 and 36 yards and Eric Teng also scored a 26 yd. TD.

There were many positives on both sides of the ball, said Hyacks head coach Farhan Lalji. Kaeden Hnatiw had five tackles, including two sacks, and a tackle for a loss.

In all, the defense had four sacks. Jordan Chin was very good on both sides of the ball, finishing with five tackles. Other good performances came from Harper Sherman, who played half the scrimmage, before leaving for the Nike Combine and Camp in Oregon. Nelson Kaplan, Prabh Bal and Greg Johnston showed improvement on offense. Sonu Kainth, Leo Kubotani and Bryce Davies raised their stock on defense.

"More than anything I was really pleased with our depth. Our second and third units fared well against some good competition, and it puts us in better position in the fall to deal with the rigors of a tough AAA schedule," said Lalji.

"Our defense showed they really wanted to get after the football. We have installed a new system so there is still alot of learning going on, but the tackling and intensity has definitely improved"

Blaine featured running back Mario Gobbato, who rushed for 2,669 yards last season, finishing eight yards off the state single season rushing record, and scored in the scrimmage. Blaine receiver Isaah Jackson, son of B.C. Lions receivers' coach, Travis Moore, scored a TD in the fourth quarter.
