New Westminster's Milanna Obrovac drives to the key in a recent game. The Hyacks are in must-win territory at the Lower Mainlands, needing to run the table to stay in the hunt for a berth to the senior girls provincials.

The margin for error remains at none.

The New Westminster senior girls Hyacks responded with their backs to the wall, trumping Moscrop 70-36 in a must-win game at the Lower Mainland tournament on Wednesday.

Behind a truly balanced attack, the Hyacks proved too tough a match-up for their league rivals from Burnaby. Player of the game Natalie Nastase led all Hyack shooters with 12 points, while Tianna Gough was the only other to hit double digits, with 11. Counting nine points each were Sarah Forgie and Devin Strome, while Jamie Butts chipped in seven.

It came on the heels of Tuesday's narrow 52-47 loss to Argyle, bumping them from top-four contention in a double-knockout tourney.

Forgie tallied 23 points and Strome hit for 16.

With the best-case scenario now a third place finish, New West need a win today (Thursday, 3:15 p.m. at Lord Byng) over John Oliver to stay in the race.

The top-three teams earn an automatic spot to the 3-A provincials in Langley, while the fourth-place finisher advances to a one-game wildcard match.
