It’s not only the New West senior football team on the playoff track.

The junior varsity Hyacks started the playoffs on the right foot, beating Belmont 28-14 to march into the quarterfinals with some sweet momentum.

After a 2-2 regular season, New West got the post-season going when quarterback Harj Grewal hit tight end Dyson Glavis for a 19-yard touchdown. Belmont replied, with a successful point-after kick to lead 7-6 at halftime.

Taking the ball and scoring twice, both of the five-yard variety, was Jairus Pagtakhan, to jump the Hyacks into a 20-7 lead. Belmont added one more major, but Max Bukovskiy dashed in from eight yards out to cap the offence.

Also providing strong support were Ethan Bresser and Lucas Steele, while defensively, Nathan Drake, Gray Glavas and Mattias Seganfreddo were major contributors.

Now, New West faces the task of meeting undefeated Mount Doug on their home turf Wednesday.
