A career night by Chris Nasato helped New Westminster defeat a stubborn Nanaimo Timbermen challenge in B.C. Junior Lacrosse League action on Saturday.
The rookie lefthander scored all five of New Westminster's goals in the final period, including the game-tying goal at 18:44 of the third that sent the game into extra time.
Nasato also tallied the game-winner with his sixth straight goal for the junior A 'Bellies. The 6-0 rookie finished with a game-high seven goals and two helpers.
Nasato and teammate Connor Robinson, who also had a nine-point night including a hat trick, currently lead the junior A scoring table with 13 points apiece.
Second-year righty Jeremy Bosher chipped in with two goals and four helpers for a second straight night for the juniors.
On May 1, Bosher put up the exact same numbers in an 8-2 win over the Langley Thunder in the team's league opener.
Kamloops pickup Kyle Pauwels opened the scoring for New West against Langley.
Intermediate callup Mitch Stokes counted New West's next two goals, including the eventual game-winner late in the middle period.
Michael Flintoff recorded the win in goal, allowing just two goals on 23 shots - one each in both the second and third periods.
Flintoff also made the difference in the win over Nanaimo in a wild matchup that saw 125 combined shots fired at the two goalkeepers. Flintoff faced 53 shots in the contest, stopping all nine he faced in overtime.
New Westminster hosted Langley in its home opener on Tuesday (after Record deadlines).
