The final score of the New West Salmonbellies game versus the Port Coquitlam Saints on Tuesday evening is deceptively even – 7-6 for the Saints. But lacrosse action at Queen’s Park shifted from one side to the other, with the teams taking turns shutting each other out and an initial strong lead for the hometown junior A team.
The first period was a dry one and except for one goal from the Bellies, the goalies were able to keep the ball out of the nets.
The Salmonbellies seemed to have the upper-hand at the beginning of the second period, and halfway through the game, they were up 4-0, scoring three goals in the first half of the period. But the Saints took possession of the second half of the game: they scored three goals in the second half of the second period, while the Salmonbellies got two more through the Saints goalie, ending the second period 6-3.
