The New Westminster Salmonbellies took a two-game lead in its best-of-five junior A lacrosse semifinal series.

The Salmonbellies scored two goals in each of the three B.C. Junior Lacrosse League periods to edge the Delta Islanders 6-4 at the Ladner Arena on Saturday.

Reagan Harding tallied the eventual game-winning goal in the second minute of the third period on a buildup in play by Brandon Goodwin and Justin Salt.

Keegan Bal led the junior 'Bellies in scoring with his first two goals, including a shorthanded tally midway through the middle frame, and two assists of the playoffs.

Frankie Scigliano was solid again in goal, making 43 saves in the New Westminster net.

Mike Mallory was in on all four Delta goals, including a natural hat trick through the second and third periods.

Islander scoring leader Logan Schuss opened the scoring for the home team on the power play.

But late first-period goals by Bal and Tyler Digby put the Salmonbellies into the lead for good.

The junior A 'Bellies took Game 1 of the series, defeating Delta 8-3 last Wednesday.

The two teams met again Tuesday (after The Record deadlines).

If necessary, a Game 4 would be played today (Wednesday) in Ladner. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
