Mitch Jones counted goals in each period, including an impressive four in the second, to lead the New Westminster Salmonbellies past the Maple Ridge Burrards 12-6 in Game 2 of their best-of-seven semifinal series.
It sets the scene for an important Game 3 on Tuesday in Maple Ridge.
Ahead 2-0 after 20 minutes, the 'Bellies plow forward with three goals in 40 seconds, with Jones tallying twice and Jakob Doucet adding a single. While the Burrards countered with a pair, New West kept pace and stayed in control the rest of the night. In the middle frame alone, New West collected eight goals on 23 shots. They outshot Maple Ridge 60-50.
Tallying six times, Jones also drew three assists, while Logan Schuss finished with three goals and five helpers.
In his first playoff game of 2017, Kevin Crowley drew five assists.
The series continues Tuesday, 7:30 p.m. in Maple Ridge. Game 4 goes Thursday, 7:30 p.m. at Queen's Park Arena.
