The senior girls’ soccer team pulled off a tie against the Burnaby South Rebels last week after falling behind early in the game.

The visiting Burnaby South girls caught the New Westminster Hyacks off guard with two quick goals about 20 minutes into the game, head coach Wayne McCarthy wrote in an email to the Record.

“The Hyacks' defenders were caught napping twice by South's quick strikers, and there was little backup goaltender Simran Dhillon could do in the one-on-one situations,” McCarthy wrote.

Hoping to counteract the Rebels’ charge, the Hyacks rearranged its lineup and were able to win back the upper hand. Juliette Davies and Naomi Noda started the comeback, scoring in the 24th minute.

In the second half, on a pass from Davies, Celeste Bain drove another goal past the South keeper to tie up the game in the 22nd minute.
