The New Westminster Hyacks showed their stuff at the Bob Gair Classic boys' and girls' basketball tournaments.
The Hyack boys placed third in the boys' division played in the Pearson gym, while the New West girls were second overall to Salmon Arm at the girls' Massey site.
Manvir Gandham and Inderjit Singh shared a team-high 21 points apiece to lead the Hyack boys to a 79-55 win over G.P. Vanier in the consolation final in the boys' competition.
Gandham nailed four three-pointers and dished out 10 assists en route to the third-place finish.
Singh also fashioned a double-double, including 10-of-11 from the floor, while hauling down 13 total rebounds.
Sylvester Appiah also chipped in with 16 points.
North Delta defeated McMath 73-60 in the tournament final.
The Hyack girls ended their Gair with an 85-55 win over Pitt Meadows.
Player of the game, Meriam Ali, led the way with 25 points, while Izabelle Datayan added 13 to the mix.
Camille Sangalang and player of the game, Hannah Devos, contributed 10 and nine points, respectively.
Ali was named to the first all-star team.
In the juvenile Gair, New West placed second to Riverside, following a 47-34 loss to the Port Coquitlam school team.
Player of the game, Katie Browning, scored six points, as did Nina Lalic. Madison Obrovac, an all-tournament first team pick, led the Hyack girls with 12 points.
A win for Emily
The Burnaby South Rebels girls' basketball team won their pool at the annual 18-team Tournament for Emily hosted by Riverside Secondary School.
The Rebel girls opened with a 40-32 win over Gleneagle. Pavneet Brar and Stephanie Labbé led the way with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Brar and Ana Lukic teamed up for 17 points apiece in a 63-52 victory over W.J. Mouat.
Brar and Mona Saib posted high games of 17 and 15 points, respectively, in South's 65-52 win over Archbishop Carney.
Burnaby South also knocked off Centennial 7343 to win its pool. Jasmine
Manhas scored a team-high 20 points for the Rebels. Lukic and Des Lister chipped in with 13 points apiece.
The annual hoop tourney is also a fundraiser for Children's Hospital.
R.T. all-stars
Burnaby South Rebels Martin Bogajev and Taymoor Khan of Burnaby Mountain were both named second team all-stars following the annual pre-Christmas Rod Thomson Mountain Madness high school boys' basketball tournament.
Co-hosts South and Mountain locked horns in a battle for fourth and sixth places, with the Rebels coming out on top 72-49.
No. 2-ranked Yale won the tournament championship over Delta 103-62.
