The New Westminster Hyacks won their second high school girls' basketball tournament this season.
After a win at the Bob Gair Classic and a secondplace finish at the Douglas College tournament to end the old year, New West got right back at it, beating host Archbishop Carney 58-41 in the championship final on Saturday.
Player of the game Amanda Zacharuk led the Hyacks in scoring with 15 points. First-team tournament all-star Meriam Ali also garnered 15 points.
Tournament MVP Ariana Sider netted 10 points, while Jetti McLaughlin added nine to the scoreline.
The Hyacks opened the tourney with a resounding 82-27 win over South Delta behind Sharmaine Hayley's 23-point performance. Ali chipped in with 20 points.
In the semifinal, Sider knocked down 34 points to lead the Hyacks past No. 7-ranked Gleneagle 59-52 to advance to the tournament final.
New Westminster is currently ranked eighth in the province.
