Simon Fraser University linebacker Casey Chin of New Westminster and offensive lineman Matthias Goosen will represent Canada on the world team at the 2012 International Bowl in Austin, Texas on Wednesday.
"It's a huge honour for these two young men to be chosen to represent Canada. It's such a unique opportunity for a football player. I have no doubt that Matthias and Casey will make their country and their school proud," said SFU head coach Dave Johnson in a school press release.
For Goosen, it is his second appearance at the International Bowl against Team U.S.A., while Chin will be making his world team debut
Chin, a sophomore, led the conference in average tackles with 8.2 per game and 74 total stops. Chin was named to the all-conference second team.
FROM QB TO DB
New Westminster's Regan Eberding recently committed to play football for the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds next season.
Despite missing most of his senior year with a shoulder injury, Eberding still managed to impress college recruiters with his athleticism.
A quarterback in high school, Eberding is likely to be employed in the T-Birds defensive secondary.
"We are very excited to have Regan join the Thunderbirds," said UBC head coach Shawn Olson in a Hyack newsletter. "His work ethic, athleticism and intelligence exemplify the type of student-athlete we are building our program on."
Eberding will join former Hyacks Vivie Bojilov, Ian Henderson and running back Warren Reece at UBC.
Eberding is the 22nd NWSS grad in the past nine years to play college football.
