A Hyack Swim Club boys' relay team of Sehajvir Singh, Ethan Laing, Dima Lim and Brian Ni set a new provincial age group record in the 11/12 200-metre freestyle with a 1: 55.19 clocking, breaking the old mark by 0.34 of a second at the Kamloops June Classic Cup on June 8.
Later in the day, the four Burnaby/New Westminster boys also just missed a national record by two-tenths of a second in the 200m medley relay, setting a second long course provincial and club record with a 2: 07.17 time at the Kamloops meet.
Hyack assistant coach Andrew Lennstrom has been working with the boys over the past few years.
The Hyack boys will try again for a national record at their week-end meet in Coquitlam.
The Hyacks will host the annual Summer Solstice invitational meet at the City Centre Aquatic Complex on Saturday, June 15.
HYACKS MEDAL IN RICH
The Hyack Swim Club got some big swims from developing athletes at the Lower Mainland long course championships held in Richmond last weekend.
Eleven-year-old Ethan Bahng was a busy swimmer, winning three gold medals and medalling in three other races at the two-day meet.
Bahng won the 50-and 100metre butterfly and 100m freestyle. He was also runner-up in the 200m backstroke and third in the 100m back and 200m breaststroke.
Alex Chernomorchenko, 11, was another six-race medallist, taking first place in the boys' 50m free, second in the 100m fly and free and 200m free and individual medley and third in the 100m breast.
Bryan Milne was first in the 11year-old boys' 50m back, second in the 50m breast and third in the 200m back, free and IM.
A Hyack 10-year-old gained the podium in five separate stroke disciplines.
Gregor Gasovic-Varga won the 50m back, was second in the 200m breast and third in the 100m free and fly and 200m IM.
Emily Lucas was a big winner on the girls' side, taking first place in the 13-year-old division in the 100 and 200m back and 400m free. She also placed runner-up in the 200m IM and third in the 100m breast.
Nicole Cheng won all three of her races in the 14-and-over category, placing first in the 50m breast and 200 and 400m free.
Jelena Mitrovic also had a good showing in the teen division, taking gold in the 50m fly and 100m free. Mitrovic was also a runner-up in the 50m free.
Micah Lau won the 12/13 boys' 50 and 200m free and was second in the 100m free.
Serge Chernomorchenko, 10, won the 50m fly and was second in the 100m breast and fly.
Rastik Ember also won the 50m back in the 12/13 boys' division.
Stella Porcellato placed first in the 13 girls' 50m fly and third in the 100m back.
Michi Duclos had a second-place medal in the 11 girls' 800m free and a third in the 50m fly.
Hannah Laing, Zack Zhao, Kaden Jaun and Andrew Li also earned a medal in their respective race.
