Todd Nowack of Brentwood Bay celebrated his 10th overall win following a first-place finish at the second annual 50-kilometre Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race in Burnaby earlier this month.
Nowack crossed the finish line at Barnet Marine Park in Burnaby in a time of 4: 20.06.
The enduro course included 10km of kayaking, 6km of trekking, 18km of mountain biking, a 7km orienteering stage through the Simon Fraser University campus, followed by another 6km of biking and 3km orienteering run.
"There were several tough but satisfying sections on the course such as some killer single-track with Nicole's Trail and Gear Jammer, making us climb Cardiac Hill not once but twice, and the steeper-than-steep Watermain Trail, which would see most racers hike-a-biking," said Nowack, in a MOMAR press release.
Bart Jarmula of Revelstoke finished a close runner-up just 11 minutes behind. Victoria's Hayden Earle was third.
Vancouver's Mike Rascher, an Olympic gold medallist in rowing at the 1992 Barcelona Games, finished in fifth place behind Norm Thibault of Nanaimo.
The shorter 30km sport course, which contained the same kayaking, trekking, orienteering and mountain biking challenges, was won by Victoria's Gord Webster and Paul Hooper.
New Westminster and Burnaby district school teachers Chad (New Westminster Secondary) and Jennifer Oatway (Byrne Creek Secondary) were runners-up.
The husband-and-wife team were the co-ed winners for a second year in a row at the Burnaby event, following a third overall finish in 2011.
More than 200 racers and volunteers from Washington and Oregon states and from all over B.C. took part in the race.
