The New Westminster Police Blues shouldn't give up their day jobs after losing to the New Westminster Salmonbellies in a charity hockey game on Wednesday night.

The Blues lost 2-1 in a shootout after the teams tied 7-7 in regulation time at Queen's Park Arena.

But the big winner was Cops for Cancer, as more than $1,500 was raised for the cancer charity at the March 21 game.

The department's Cops for Cancer participant this year is Const. Matt Robson, a seven-year veteran who will be riding 900 kilometres from Sept. 19 to 27 as the Tour de Coast goes along the Sea to Sky corridor, with stops on the Sunshine Coast, North Shore and Metro Vancouver.

Cops for Cancer is celebrating its 15th anniversary in B.C. this year.

Since its inception in 1998, it has raised almost $25 million to fund pediatric cancer programs and research.
