Just as it should this week for Valentine’s, but everything is coming up roses for the Douglas College men’s and women’s basketball teams.

Both squads are on big rolls as they head into the final weekend of the regular season.

The men’s team is on a 6-1 run, with the lastest wins coming over Quest by scores of 98-74 and 85-71.

In the latter win, Kameron Johnson scored 20 points as Douglas broke a tie with a 31-17 run in the third quarter. Chipping in 14 points apiece were Noah DeRappard-Yuswack and Reese Morris.

A day earlier, Douglas lead 45-28 at halftime and maintained a healthy lead throughout. DeRappard-Yuswack tallied 20 points and pulled down 11 boards, while Josiah Mastandrea contributed 18 points.

Despite their recent run, which has seen them go 6-1 over the past month, Douglas has fallen out of the top-15 national rankings. They were listed 10th on Jan. 9.

The men’s Royals sit third at 10-6 in the PacWest league, one-win back of second-place Langara.

The Douglas women, meanwhile, also swept Quest by scores of 82-59 and 64-54.

Rachel Beauchamp tallied 19 points and recovered 11 rebounds, while Nanaya Miki chipped in 16 points.

A day earlier, Simran Bir cashed in 19 points, while Sarah Jorgenson tallied 16 points.

The women Royals have enjoyed a strong start to the second half, posting an 8-2 record in the new year. They are currently ranked 15th in the latest national poll. They sit tied for second with Vancouver Island at 12-4, one game back of first-place Capilano.

Both Douglas teams wrap up the regular season with a pair of games at Capilano this weekend.
