Despite bringing a smaller team to the B.C. High School Track and Field championships last week than in past years, the Glenbrook Middle School squad made a lot of noise.
Led by Vishaan Narayan, Glenbrook enjoyed another successful end to the high school season, with six of 10 athletes returning with ribbons.
Narayan, a Grade 8 standout who's primary sport is football, set the tone by establishing a new school mark in javelin. His throw of 36.91 metres was four metres better than the previous Glenbrook throw, and put him fourth-best at the provincials. He was also the lone competitor to go with a standing throw, forgoing the traditional run-and-throw routine.
He also placed seventh in the shotput.
Glenbrook also produced the sixth-best time in the Grade 8 girls 4x100m, with the quartet of Ella Foster, Anja Tjernagel, Gracie Wayner and Lauren Black completing the event in 54.29 seconds. Tjernagel also went on to place 12th in the 100m dash, while Josiah Driedger climbed up six spots fomr her qualifying position in the triple jump.
Moving up to compete against junior-aged rivals were Kendall Holloway in hammer throw, Adam Shuja in race walk, and Natalie Klassen in both events.
