Giants miffed at Mac's

The Northwest Giants were all but blanked at the Mac's AAA midget hockey tournament in Calgary. The Giants picked up a single point at the prestigious international competition, earning a 3-3 draw with the Sherwood Park J. Ennis Kings on Dec. 29.

The Burnaby-based Giants lost its other round-robin matchups to Edmonton SSAC, Beardy's Blackhawks and eventual runner-up UFA Bisons.

The Bisons lost the tournament final 5-0 to visiting Russia Severstal/ Locomotiv.

Burnaby defenceman Joseph Carvalho had a strong tourney despite the team's collective woes, garnering five points in four games.

The second-year blueliner was the Giants' team star in the first two games, scoring a goal and adding an assist in a 6-2 loss to the Bisons and a 7-5 defeat to the Blackhawks. He also drew an assist in the Giants' 3-1 loss to Edmonton.
