Gair tourneys finish up on Friday

The Bob Gair Classic high school basketball tournaments wrap up today (Friday) at New Westminster Secondary School. The final placement games for the varsity boys' championship begin at 9 a.m. in the Pearson Gym and run until 2: 15 p.m.

The New Westminster Hyack boys are coming off a 96-79 upset over No. 5-ranked Tamanawis last week.

Hyacks forward Sylvester Appiah led the team with 32 points, including 13-of-16 two-pointers from the floor and 11 assists.

Guard Manvir Gandham chipped in with 27 points, including five three-pointers on five-of-eight shooting from beyond the arc.

In the Massey gym, the senior Hyack girls take on Pitt Meadows on Friday at 3: 15 p.m., while the juvenile girls face Riverside at 11: 30 a.m.
