The Burnaby Lakers took it on the chin from crosstown rival New Westminster in B.C. junior A lacrosse on Tuesday.
The Burnaby juniors fell behind early at Queen’s Park Arena and wound up on the losing end of a 17-7 scoreline to the Salmonbellies.

The Lakers trailed 7-1 after the opening 20 minutes and never fully recovered, with former Salmonbellie keeper Graham Husick taking the loss despite weathering more than 60 shots on goal against the steadily improving New West club.
New West’s Michael Flintoff registered the victory in goal with a 28-save performance.
Connor Robinson and Jeremy Bosher led the assault for the junior ’Bellies with six-point games, including four counters from Bosher, who tied with teammate Nathan Stewart for most goals in the game.
Carter Dickson also contributed a hat trick in a five-point outing. Ryan Vogrig had five points to lead the visitors. Aidan Milburn and Danny Spagnuolo both scored twice for Burnaby.
Next up for Burnaby is a 5 p.m. afternoon contest against the Victoria Shamrocks at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre on Sunday.
New West is also active this weekend, with back-to-back meetings in Ladner against the Delta Islanders on Saturday and at Queen’s Park on Sunday for a final meeting against the Nanaimo Timbermen at 5 p.m.
