Fantastic five New West Spartans receive awards

New West Spartans Fantastic Five midget and junior development athletes received awards in seven events at the recent 2011 B.C. Athletics annual awards banquet. Ahmad Nizamani was a gold medalist in long jump, with a leap of 6.

New West Spartans Fantastic Five midget and junior development athletes received awards in seven events at the recent 2011 B.C. Athletics annual awards banquet.

Ahmad Nizamani was a gold medalist in long jump, with a leap of 6.60 metres, and in the medley. He also took home a silver medal in the 4x100m at the Canadian Legion national championship, and a gold medal in long jump at the B.C. jamboree championship.

Ethan Strome was the winner at the Canadian Legion nationals and B.C. record holder in the 200-m hurdles with a 25.34 time. He also earned a bronze medal in the 100m hurdles.

Mihailo Stefanovic was a double gold medalist in the 100-m hurdles, with a 13.66 clocking, and in the 200-m hurdles at 25.77 at the B.C. jamboree championship. He also won a silver medal in the triple jump.

Bogdan Pavel also turned in a time of 14.29 in the 100-m hurdles. Pavel also won gold in the medley and a silver in the 4x100m relay at the Canadian Legion National Championship.

Jemal Reta, a junior development award winner for 14-year-olds recorded times of 3:21.62 in the 1,200m and 6:04.89 in the 2,000m.
