The Douglas College Royals kept ahead of Camosun but failed to gain ground on PacWest leaders Vancouver Island University in men’s basketball last week.
The Royals started off with an 83-63 win over the visiting Chargers on Jan. 16.
Kristian Hildebrandt and Grant Campbell led the home side with 17 points apiece, while Ethan McKeen chipped in with 10 points, including three three-pointers.
On the following Saturday, Douglas took the first-place Mariners to overtime before settling for a 79-74 loss at home.
Malcolm Mensah scored 15 points for Douglas. Aaron Bacon, with a double-double, and Campbell added 13 points apiece.
The Douglas women’s team lost to both Camosun and VIU.
