The Douglas College Royals women's basketball team kept its eye on first place in the PacWest following a pair of wins at home.
The second-place Royals improved their record to 10-3 with wins over last-place Columbia Bible College and Kwantlen Polytechnic last week.
Douglas opened with a 54-44 win over CBC on Friday, jumping out to a 16-9 first-quarter lead and then cruising to victory.
On Saturday, Patti Olsen led the way with 17 points, while Amonda Francis scored a double-double in the Royals' 47-36 win over Kwantlen.
Olsen shot more than .500 from the floor, including three-of-four from three-point land and a perfect four-of-four from the charity stripe.
Francis, who leads the league in scoring, collected 12 points and hauled down 14 game-high rebounds. Francis also contributed three assists, two blocked shots and a steal to the win.
The Douglas women are in Squamish on Friday with a date with Quest University. On Saturday, the Royals take on first-place Capilano in North Vancouver at 6 p.m.
On the men's court, Douglas exchanged the lead nine times with Columbia Bible College but came away with a 70-67 loss on Friday.
The Royals got the better of Kwantlen the following night, winning 81-56 on the strength of a 28-point final quarter.
The win left Douglas in a four-team tie with CBC, Camosun and Capilano, all teams with 10 points. Kwantlen fell to last place with a 4-9 record.
Devan Haynes led the Royals over Kwantlen with a game-high 22 points, including nine-of-13 from the floor, and 23 boards.
Dustin Egelstad also contributed a double-double, netting 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Harpreet Randhawa and Andrew Baron both chipped in with 11 points for the Royals.
On Friday, Egelstad and Randhawa scored 18 points apiece in the loss to Columbia Bible College.
Haynes also recorded his first of two weekend double-doubles with 11 points and 10 boards against the Abbotsford college.
This weekend, the Royal men will play the later games against Quest on Friday and at Capilano on Saturday. Both games are 8 p.m. starts.
