Douglas College gave a good account of itself following an 86-78 loss to Simon Fraser University in exhibition basketball on Tuesday.
In the second half, the Clan got careless with the ball, resulting in 11 turnovers and allowing Douglas College to go on an 11 point run, narrowing the SFU lead to nine points. The Royals got to within five points with less than two minutes left in the game, hitting back-to-back threepointers.
Ravi Athwal led Douglas College in scoring with 19 points, while going nine-for-10 from the free-throw line.
Douglas is in Prince George Saturday for its PacWest opener against the University of Northern B.C.
