Douglas College head coach Brad Hudson was named the 2012 Canadian Colleges' Athletic Association men's volleyball coach of the year on Wednesday.
Hudson received the award at the association's pre-national tournament banquet in Abbotsford on March 7.
The Douglas College Royals are ranked second in B.C.'s competitive PacWest conference. The Royals earned a spot at the nationals, defeating regular season champion Vancouver Island University 3-1 in the provincial final.
Douglas finished the regular season with a 19-5 record, improving over last year's 9-5 record.
"Brad has made huge improvements since season," said Ray Sarkis, men's volleyball national convenor in a CCAA press release. "It's impressive to see where he's gone with the program."
The other nominees for 2012 CCAA men's volleyball coach of the year were Rock Picard of the Titans de Limoilou, Joe Ryan of the Holland Hurricanes, Aaron Schulha of the Red Deer Kings and Eric Yung of the Nipissing Lakers.
The Royals were in action against No. 7 seed Sherbrooke on the opening day of the national championships hosted at Columbia Bible College on Thursday (after Record deadlines). The gold-medal final is scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m.
