One run separated the New Westminster Dodgers Babe Ruth League team from capturing the season-ending tournament held last weekend at Inter-City Park in North Vancovuer. Having made it to the final against the North Vancouver Giants***, the hometown team dropped a close, 5-4 decision to the host squad.
In the opening game of the tournament, New West edged the North Shore Angels, 10-9, behind the pitching of Nick Coles and Connor Suffron. Liam Ozee and Ryan Bailey shared catching duties, and Daniel Li scored three runs. In the semi-final against the North Shore Red Sox, pitcher Alex Lazecki pitched a 3-hit , 7-strikeout complete game victory to help New West win 13-3, and advance into the finals. Second baseman Aris Mountain led the hit parade with a pair of singles and two stolen bases. Others reaching twice and scoring were Jacob Hamm, Ben Karwacki, Liam Morrison, Lazecki, Liam Ozee, Ryan Bailey and Leland Bond.
New West jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the final, but were undone by a 4-run inning for North Vancouver. Hits were hard to come by for the Dodgers, but Liam Morrison, Connor Suffron and Ben Karwacki reached on solid hits and runs were scored by Daniel Li, Leland Bond, and Connor Suffron, with 2. Pitching a solid game for New West were Phil Lemp and Nick Coles.
