The Burnaby Collegiate Bulldogs are the new B.C. junior men's baseball champions.
The Bulldogs defeated the host and defending provncial champion Kelowna Jays in extra innings by a score of 5-4 in Kelowna last month.
Tanner Robertson batted in the winning run in the ninth inning with a walkoff hit in the ninth inning of the final.
Brody Hawkins had two of Burnaby's 10 hits and scored the game-winning run on Robertson's timely double. Landon Briscoe and Corbin Henderson also had two hits for the Bulldogs
Starter Quinn Allen went five strong innings, allowing just two hits and striking out six Kelowna batters before giving way to Keenan Kapp, who got the win.
Burnaby also defeated the Jays 5-2 on the second day of competition in the double-knockout provincials.
In that game, Caleb Lefebvre gave up just two hits in four innings on the mound. Scott Piesche came on in relief to earn the win, pitching three no-hit innings.
James Zamko led the 'Dogs attack, batting in three runs on two hits. Tyler Pentland also had two hits and a couple of RBI.
Three Burnaby players on the team, all pitchers, also played significant roles in the provincial championship win.
Daniel Altoe pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts for a 5-2 win against the Kamloops Sun Devils to solidify Burnaby's entry into the final. Quinn Allen was given the honours of starting the championship game, pitching a solid first four innings that would lead to the eventual win. Douglas Strohan, another Burnaby pitcher, also pitched some solid innings earlier in the tournament.
The collegiate Bulldogs will represent B.C. at the 2013 national championship to be held next year in Dartmouth, N.S.
