Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe's boosted the Simon Fraser University women's basketball team to its seventh win on home court.
Raincock-Ekunwe scored a game-high 24 points and netted 11 rebounds to lead the Clan to a 76-66 win over Western Oregon at the West Gym on Saturday.
The 17th double-double of the season for Raincock-Ekunwe tied her conference mark set last year and topped all NCAA Division II players to date.
The win over its conference rival lifted the Clan's record to 8-4 in the Great Northwest conference.
Chelsea Reist also continued her strong play, potting 20 points, while adding six rebounds for the home side.
New Westminster's Kia Van Laare sparked an 11-2 run midway through the second half that gave SFU its biggest lead at 27-18 with just over five minutes left to play.
Earlier in the week, Reist and Raincock-Ekunwe helped avenge an earlier loss to Saint Martin's University, turning the tables on the Washington State school with a 7948 paddling at home on Thursday.
Reist netted 18 points, while Raincock-Ekunwe added a game-high 23 points and 10 boards.
"We really wanted to focus on playing together," said Reist in a prepared SFU press release.
The women's team will play a pair of conference games on the road in Alaska this week.
UP AND DOWN
The Simon Fraser University men's basketball team split a pair of conference games on the road.
Justin Brown led the Clan to an 88-85 victory on Thursday over Saint Martin's with 35 points, including a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer.
Later, the Clan men fell 86-48 to the Western Oregon Wolves on Saturday.
In the win, Brown scored 22 of his game-high points in the second half.
Jordan Sergent was next on the Clan with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
"Brown and Sergent both attacked the basket all night. Zack (Frehlick) was outstanding as well. Top to bottom, the guys just played a very strong game this evening and really earned the victory," said SFU assistat coach Chris Cline in an SFU release.
On Saturday, Connor Lewis led the way for the Clan with 19 points, including 15 of his points coming off long-range treys.
But collectively it was the Wolves, who shot a combined 80 per cent from the floor in the final 20 minutes that stood out.
Western Oregon outscored SFU 54-27 in the second half, making 20 of 25 shots, including all nine of its three-point attempts.
The Clan men host Alaska Fairbanks on Thursday night, before welcoming Alaska Anchorage to the West Gym on Saturday.
Both games are 7 p.m. starts.
