The Simon Fraser University women's basketball team split its West Coast weekend road trip.
The Clan opened with a 66-53 victory over Western Oregon last Thursday but lost its Saturday matchup in Lacey, Washington 6457 to the Saint Martin's Saints.
"It's always difficult to win games on the road. You need to outwork your opponent, and you need the breaks to go your way, which they didn't for us," said SFU head coach Bruce Langford in a school press release. "We got in foul trouble early, which hurt us, and we were outcompeted on the blocks."
New Westminster sophomore Kia Van Laare had a team-high 19 points in the Saturday loss. Kristina Collins had 18 points and six assists.
SFU trailed 32-27 at the half, but Van Laare tied the score on two separate occasions early in the second half, the first time on one of her five three-pointers in the game.
On Thursday, Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe recorded her 10th double-double this season, recording 18 points and 13 rebounds in the win. In Saturday's loss, Raincock-Ekunwe managed just five points to go along with her game-high 15 boards.
SFU hosts Alaska Anchorage at the West gym on Thursday night.
