The Simon Fraser University bounced back after its first loss of the year, edging California State - Monterey Bay 68-63 in NCAA Division II women's basketball on Saturday.

The Clan women dropped a 55-50 encounter to Colorado State - Pueblo on Nov. 25 despite a double-double from Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe and the three-point shooting of sophomore guard Kia Van Laare of New Westminster.

On Saturday, Raincock-Ekunwe led all players with 17 points, 14 rebounds and three blocked shots, while Carla Wyman had a solid start for SFU, scoring all 13 of her points in the opening half.

Against CSU, Raincock-Ekunwe dominated, scoring 14 points and hauling down a game-high 22 boards.

Van Laare, a New Westminster Secondary School grad, chipped in with 12 points, including a pair of long-range treys.

"We had a chance to win the game ... despite the fact that we didn't play very well," said Clan head coach Bruce Langford in a school press release. "Outside of Nayo our rebounding was pretty poor and we gave up too many turnovers. Kia did a good job shooting threes, but beyond her, we struggled there, too."

The Clan play its home opener and first Great Northwest conference game of the season on Thursday against Seattle Pacific at the West gym. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
