Clan women fifth in first dual meet

The SFU Clan finished fifth in a season-opening women's wrestling dual meet in Oklahoma City. Justina Distasio, Danielle Lappage, Darby Huckle and Gina Carpenter all finished the meet without a loss.

Jenna McLatchy, Laura Gordon of New Westminster and Burnaby's Nikkie Brar finished with 5-1 records.

Sidney Morrison had a 4-1 record, while Carolyn Failanga won four of seven matches and Laura Wilson finished at 3-3.

SFU's first-ever loss to Lindenwood dropped the Clan into the consolation semifinal, where they defeated Wayland Baptist 35-5. The Clan women went on to take fifth place with a combined 31-4 victory over Jamestown.

"This was a good competition for our athletes," said SFU head coach Mike Jones. "This event gave us a good view of the top teams we will face this season.
