Ladner jumped out to a 9-2 first-period lead and never trailed, despite a second-period turnaround that got the home club to within 10-8 before the Pioneers rallied with three quick goals in a 35-second span to end the middle stanza.

Ryan McEwen led the Caps with a hat trick, including one of two shorthanded goals by Royal City in the final period.

New Westminster keepers Kevin Hazelwood and backup William Morrison teamed up for 41 saves in the Royal City goal.
