The Burnaby Winter Club Bruins avenged an earlier tournament loss to the North Shore Winter Club, beating its Lower Mainland rival 4-0 in the final of the 39th annual Medicine Hat Hockey Hounds bantam AAA tournament on Sunday.
The Bruins won all six games played, including close results against Lloydminster and the Calgary Bisons.
The Burnaby club opened with a 7-6 win over Lloydminster before winning the red pool over the Bisons with a 5-3 victory. BWC also knocked off Kamloops by a 6-2 score in pool play.
In the gold-medal final, Ty Ronning opened the scoring in the first period with what turned out to be the eventual game-winner.
Matthew Barzal and Justin Szeto both scored power-play goals for BWC in the middle frame.
Nick Holowko scored Burnaby's fourth goal of the game. Nic McBride posted the shutout, making 18 saves in goal for the Bruins.
"I really liked what I saw and in the last game it really showed," said BWC head coach John Batchelor.
"We were relentless on the puck and frustrated them no end. It was just a real good solid team effort."
Ty Schultz was named to the all-tournament first team along with teammate Adam Musil.
Jansen Harkins of the North Shore Winter Club received a $2,500 scholarship as the tournament MVP in Medicine Hat.
The Bruins advanced to the semifinals with an 11-1 romp over CAC Edmonton.
The winter club team then defeated eventual bronze medallist POE Kelowna team 9-6 in a high-scoring semifinal.
Kelowna beat the Calgary Bisons in the bronze-medal game.
In an early season bantam tournament in Chilliwack, Burnaby lost 2-0 in the final to the rival NSWC. BWC was 7-0-1 in tiering play.
