Basketball B.C.'s Burnaby/New Westminster zone under-14 girls won the prestigious 3D Spring Showcase basketball tournament held at SFU on May 13.

Led by tournament all-star Nikko Sahagun from St. Thomas More, the self-named BurWest Beasts won all four of their games against Athelite, 3D Elite, Okanagan and Vancouver Panthers.

"Nikko was our leader and had an outstanding tournament," said BurWest coach Stephen Bruyneel. "We also got great performances from Jacey Bailey, Anjelika Ku, Justice Steer and Lindsey Bott."

The u-14 team was made up of girls from provincial champion STM, Burnaby/New Westminster league and playoff champion Glenbrook Middle School, Burnaby Mountain Senior Secondary, New Westminster Senior Secondary, Suncrest Elementary and Nelson Elementary. The team was selected after a two-day development camp in late April.

The 3D Showcase was part of the u-14 team's preparation for Basketball B.C.'s provincial zone tournament this weekend at the Langley Events Centre.

In addition to determining the best zone team in B.C., the tournament will also be used to help select the girls who will play in this year's B.C. Summer Games this July in Surrey.
