Burnaby’s synchronized swimmers made one final splash at C.G. Brown Pool on Saturday.
The Burnaby Caprice Synchronized Swimming Club wrapped up another successful season with its annual Watershow, displaying the growth in aquatic talent over the past year.
But the biggest splash for the club could come next season, when it tries to recruit a male swimmer to compete at the 2016 national championships.

FINA, the world synchronized swimming organization, created a new mixed doubles category this year. It’s a watery version of ballet or figure skating but, until now, not a synchro category.
Caprice is hoping to recruit at least one boy between the ages of 14 and 17, who is both a good swimmer and also has some experience with gymnastics, ballet, dance or figure skating. He will train with an elite member of the Caprice club, who recently competed as a soloist at the nationals – the first Caprice swimmer to do so in that event in many years.
The club is also expanding in other ways. For the first time, the club will hold a week-long summer camp, starting on Monday, August 31. The camp, at MacPherson Pool in South Burnaby, will welcome beginners to join with more experienced swimmers for five days of water-filled fun.
The club will also host its annual free tryout synchro nights in September. That’s where kids from six to sixteen can find out for themselves why this sport is the most fun anyone – girls and boys - can have in the water.
