Bruins rated high for WHL draft

Three Burnaby Winter Club hockey players were projected as top-10 forward picks at the upcoming Western Hockey League bantam draft.

Three Burnaby Winter Club hockey players were projected as top-10 forward picks at the upcoming Western Hockey League bantam draft.

Matthew Barzal, Adam Musil and Ty Ronning of Burnaby were all picked as possible first-rounders by Global Edmonton reporter Dean Millard on WHL's prospect central website.

Barzal, the MVP at the recent Western Canada AAA bantam championship won by the winter club for a second consecutive season, was ranked the top forward pick overall.

"A superstar in waiting," said Millard in the online release. "Wouldn't be surprised if someone tried to get him in the league next year."

The 6-1, 165-pound Musil, son of former NHLer Frank Musil, was slotted as the likely No. 2 pick.

"Frank's kid is an exceptional skater for a big power forward. Not fun to play against. - very tough," Millard added.

In the 10th spot was Ronning, the son of former Vancouver Canucks and Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame forward Cliff Ronning.

Millard had high praise for the 5-7 winger, who had four goals and seven assists at the recent Western Canada championships.

"Maybe the best habits of any forward in this draft," said Millard. "Has work ethic like his father, and maybe more skill."
