Hyack Swim Club's Stefan Milosevic swam to three medals, including a gold, at the Paul Bergen junior international short course meet in Oregon earlier this month.
The 17-year-old Cariboo Hill Secondary School student broke two Hyack club records en route to the gold medal in the boys' 400metre freestyle in the final day of competition at the 14th annual Paul Bergen championship meet at Tualatin Hills, Oregon on Dec. 9.
Milosevic's winning time of 3: 51.00 set a new Hyack Swim Club mark in the 15-to-17 boys' division and open divisions. The fast time also ranks Milosevic among the top 70 swimmers in the world at that distance.
The Burnaby swimmer opened the competition with a bronze-medal swim in the 200-m butterfly. Milosevic's time of 2: 19.40 was also a new club age-group mark.
On Day 2 of the meet, Milosevic won a second medal, taking the silver in the 200m free, shattering Hyack age group and open records along the way.
Milosevic's runner-up clocking of 1: 49.11 was less than half a second behind 18-year-old German swimmer Florian Vogel's winning time in the event.
The Bergen internatio-inal meet is the only junior swim meet of its kind held in the United States, and since its inception in 1999, it has included top swimmers from the U.S., eastern and western Canada, Germany, France and Mexico.
At last weekend's B.C. senior swim championships in Victoria, Milosevic found himself on the podium again with runner-up finishes in both the 200m free and 400m individual medley finals.
Milosevic placed second behind 19-year-old Keegan Zanatta of Island Swimming in the freestyle final. He also won the silver medal winner in the IM behind Island Swimming's 19-year-old Alec Page.
