The New Westminster Salmonbellies are well placed for a final assault on the B.C. Junior Lacrosse League.
New Westminster defeated the once mighty Burnaby Lakers 11-3 at Queen's Park Arena on Tuesday.
Quinton Bradley, with his first junior A goal, and Colton Dow, four-on-four, gave Burnaby an early 2-1 lead.
But it was tough sledding the rest of the way as Salmonbellies starter Ross Bowman held off the Lakers shooters for more than three-quarters of an hour before Kevin Lemond broke the scoreless streak at 15: 19 of the third period.
New Westminster's Reagan Harding, who had four goals and two assists in the junior 'Bellies' 119 overtime win over Coquitlam last week, led all scorers with another six point outing at home.
Harding tallied a pair of goals in the opening period, including the eventual game-winner in close on a neat flip pass from New West's scoring leader Kyle Dobbie.
Harding, a Saskatoon product, also assisted on four straight power play goals between the second and third periods that finished off the offensivelychallenged Lakers.
Josh Becker and Keegan Bal, who both play NCAA Division I field lacrosse at Lake Erie College with Harding, both added a pair of goals to the New West scoreline.
Becker, who played senior B box lacrosse in New York State, garnered a junior A best four points, including his first two goals of the season on the power play.
"Everbody's an athlete out here," said Becker. "I'm just trying to get my shots off and I got a few today."
With the win, New West moved into sole possession of third place with 18 points, just six points behind the leading Coquitlam Adanacs and with three games in hand on second-place Delta.
The Lakers and Salmonbellies go at it again on Sunday at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
