New Westminster moved to a record of 8-4 with an easy win in Nanaimo on Saturday.
The junior A Salmonbellies got big games from Anthony Malcom, Josh Byrne and Quinn Smith to leave the Timbermen behind following an 11-7 victory at Frank Crane Arena.
Even goalie Frank Scigliano got on the scoresheet, receiving credit for a goal that tied the contest at 2-2 late in the first period.
After that rare feat, the 'Bellies rattled off five straight goals, including a natural hat trick by Smith, to start the middle period. Quinn finished the game with five points.
Byrne, New West's leading scorer, also scored his third shorthanded marker of the season in the second period.
The rookie junior Salmonbellie collected six points in the win and currently sits third overall in B.C. Junior Lacrosse League scoring with 22 goals and 53 points.
Malcom, who led all scorers with seven points, scored the first of his two power-play goals to end the middle stanza.
Both Byrne and Malcom were named the BCJLL co-players of the week.
New West built up an 11-3 advantage before the T-Men put on a late rally, scoring four times in the final seven minutes.
The juniors are now 7-1, after a win over Nanaimo was taken away for playing an inelgible player.
The Saturday win puts New Westminster into a second-place tie with the Coquitlam Adanacs, both with 16 points and just two points behind 9-5 leader Delta Islanders.
New Westminster will meet Langley on Thursday at the Langley Events Centre. Game time is 8 p.m.
The junior 'Bellies will then play host to the Victoria Shamrocks at Queen's Park on Sunday. Game time is 5 p.m.
New West also has a future date with Delta at its usual home game on Tuesday night at Queen's Park.
