Two big plays by Mikey Carney was all B.C. needed to win the bronze medal at Football Canada's under-18 Canada Cup in Lethbridge, Alta.

Carney, the Grade 11 provincial high school player of the year, was named B.C.'s offensive player of the game in the team's 14-1 victory over Ontario West in the consolation bronzemedal matchup on July 15.

The St. Thomas More Knights quarterback helped open the scoring for B.C. at wide receiver, with a neartouchdown catch from Jordan Deverill that covered 91 yards on the final play of the first quarter.

Carney was brought down on the Ontario sevenyard line, setting up a firstand-goal. Carney shifted to pivot to replace the shakenup Deverill, scoring on a quarter-back keeper to put B.C. in the lead 7-1.

B.C. widened its lead later in the first half on a five-yard touchdown pass from Deverill to Mason Swift.

Two other STM players, linebacker Kyle Madden of New Westminster and receiver Giovanni Trasolini, joined Carney on the B.C. team.

The bronze medal was the second straight thirdplace finish for B.C. at the under-18 national championships.

Quebec won this year's Canada Cup, downing host Alberta 28-2 in the championship final.
