B.C. minor lacrosse teams managed just a bronze medal at the Ontario Lacrosse Festival in Whitby, Ont. last week.
The provincial midget boys, including Jordan Gabriele, Trevor Peters and Cory Sinclair of Burnaby, defeated Alberta 8-7 in the consolalation final at the national midget championships last Saturday. B.C.'s peewee team, including New Westminster's Kip Guthrie, Noah Armitage, Nikhal Dhandwar and Ben Stewart also defeated Alberta 8-2 for the bronze.
The midget boys lost their semifinal matchup to round-robin runner-up Team Iroquois 10-3 on Aug. 9. B.C. lost 8-1 to eventual champion Ontario and 8-7 to the Iroquois Nation in the preliminary rounds.
Ontario eked out the gold medal in the midget final, narrowly defeating Team Iroquois 7-6 in overtime in the gold-medal match.
The provincial peewee team also finished up third after round-robin play following a 4-1 loss to Iroquois. The two teams met in the semifinal with the outcome an identical 4-1 scoreline for the Six Nations team.
Ontario defeated the Iroquois 9-2 in the national final.
B.C. lost to Ontario 6-5 on Day 2 of the week-long competition.
Earlier, B.C.'s bantam team, including Erik Maas, earned a silver medal following a 9-1 loss to Ontario at the bantam box national championships held in Winnipeg on Aug. 7.
