B.C. just missed winning a gold medal at the Bantam Lacrosse Championships of Canada in Whitby, Ont.
The provincial team fell 4-3 to Ontario in the championship final Saturday.
B.C. eked its way into the gold-medal final with a 3-2 win over Iroquois Nation in the semifinal matchup between the second-and third-place teams. Ontario earned a bye into the championship final.
Team B.C., which included New Westminster representatives Nolan Duncan, Max Gerhardt, Nathan Macedo, Ryan Wilkinson and goalie Laiton Manuel, lost to Iroquois 5-4 in the final day of the round robin. B.C. also dropped an earlier 11-3 decision to Ontario on Aug. 3.
Gerhardt and Port Coquitlam's Brodie Gillespie led Team B.C., both with 22 points. Macedo chipped in with 18 points, including a team second-best nine goals.
Duncan potted eight goals and 13 points, Wilkinson added six goals and 11 points.
Iroquois went on to take the bronze medal, beating Alberta 8-6.
Manitoba took the B gold medal with a 6-2 win over Saskatchewan. Quebec beat Nova Scotia for the B bronze.
The B.C. midget and peewee box teams both came home with a bronze medal.
The B.C. team, including Matthew Shannik and Danny Spagnuolo, got by Alberta 9-8 in double overtime to take the consolation medal, following a 7-4 loss to Team Iroquois in the semifinal Friday.
The West Coast reps lost an earlier 7-3 decision to both Iroquois and Ontario in preliminary round play.
Shannik finished in a second-place tie with 15 points in B.C. team scoring, including seven goals. Spagnuolo also had seven goals and 11 points.
Ontario defeated Iroquois Nation 8-5 in the final. Quebec won the B gold, beating New Brunswick 6-4. Nova Scotia finished third.
In the peewee final, Ontario ran away with the gold medal following a 10-1 win over Iroquois.
B.C., 5-4 upset losers to Iroquois in Friday's advancement game to the A final, had finished second overall in the round robin. B.C.'s only loss in the preliminary round was a 6-2 defeat to Ontario.
Burnaby's Sekanwnee Baker shared the goal-scoring lead with William Malcolm of New Westminster and Joseph Pollack and Robert Hofseth of Coquitlam, all with 10 goals. New West's Nick Hannay and Erik Maas garnered nine and seven goals, respectively.
Quebec won the B final 7-3 over Nova Scotia. Manitoba took third place over Saskatchewan in the consolation B final.
