Atom Royals win in Pt. Moody

The New Westminster Royals atom A1 hockey team beat Mission 3-2 in the final of the Port Moody rep Christmas hockey tournament in December. The Royals took a 2-0 lead on goals by Ashlen Rutherford and Alec Lakusta.

The Royals took a 2-0 lead on goals by Ashlen Rutherford and Alec Lakusta.

Mission pulled their goalie late in the third period and scored to pull with one. Soon after, callup Liam Bates scored the game-winner on a nice backhand pass from Alex Lazecki to seal the deal. Mission scored again with 12 seconds left but that was as close as they could come to the Royals.

New West started the tournament with a convincing 6-2 win over South Delta Storm A2. Six different players shared in the goal scoring, including Lazecki, Brennan Ryan, Carson Bujnowicz, Dante Ballarin Bates and co-callup Josh Domingues. Keegan Melenychuk was the winning goaltender.

Mathew Forero backstopped the Royals' 5-2 semifinal win over North Vancouver A2.

The Royals also defeated West Vancouver A1 6-3 in tournament play. Noah Armitage had a four-point outing, including a pair of goals.
