The New Westminster junior varsity Hyacks are on the verge of doing something not even the senior team has done before - win a conference football title.

That may become a reality for the younger Hyacks when they meet Mt. Douglas in the team's final game of the regular season at Mercer Stadium on Thursday.

The Hyacks, 4-1 and hot off a 34-20 victory over West Vancouver last week, need a victory over last year's provincial finalist to place first in the Western Conference.

The Hyacks got five scores from five separate players, including a pair of first-quarter touchdowns by quarterback Mackenzie Ratcliffe - one rushing and the other a pass to Matt Seymour.

Marc Massicotte scored on a passing play from Jamie Shiho in the second quarter.

Daniel Steeves and Tyrone Morgan both had touchdowns along the ground in the second half for the JV Hyacks.

Game time for the Friday matchup with West Van is 3: 30 p.m. at Mercer Stadium.
